Standards Management Process
The Global Standards Management Process (GSMP) was created by GS1 to develop and maintain global standards for the GS1 System and to ensure that GS1 standards evolve to meet changing needs of business.
The GSMP uses a global consensus process from all industries and is built on these core activities:
- Identify and assess business needs
- Gather business requirements
- Document best practices
- Gain solution consensus
- Develop and implement standards
Guiding principles of GSMP
GSMP is an open and transparent process in which anyone can submit a request to improve their supply chain efficiency.
GSMP is user driven, based on the participation of companies. A member company may take an active role in the development of a solution to a particular business need, or simply may submit a request and let the GSMP do the work.
GSMPs scope is the improvement of global standards and the development of solutions responding to international and local companies' business requirements in any industry sector.
