1. Background
Retailers and Suppliers in the Office Products sector have been working with GS1 Australia to drive best practice supply chain principles across the sector utilising the GS1 standards. Adoption of the GS1 standards will bring improved business efficiencies and effectiveness for all parties within the supply chain.
In June 2009, a group of key companies in the Office Supplies sector met to establish the first official industry working group - OSGAG.
The Office Supplies GS1 Action Group (OSGAG) was established to focus on improving the merchandising and supply chain processes across the sector. The recognition that an improvement in the quality of item master data flowing through the supply chain would achieve a range of benefits, OSGAG has committed to endorsing the use of GS1net for item master data synchronisation between trade partners.
Electronic Master Data Synchronisation within the industry sector, via the GS1net™ data pool, is set to commence early 2011. Several suppliers in the Office Supplies industry are already involved with data synchronisation for the Grocery industry and have realised benefits to their organisations. Notwithstanding these benefits, Electronic Data Synchronisation is seen as a fundamental requirement for successful electronic messaging.

Office Supplies GS1 Action Group (OSGaG)

Leveraging work undertaken in the New Zealand Office Supplies industry, OSGAG Group was set up in June 2009 to help develop, promote and deliver a Trans-Tasman implementation program for item master data.
OSGAG is overseen by a representative leadership group (Steering Committee) made up of key retailers and suppliers across Australia and New Zealand. The current steering committee consists of representatives from Officeworks, OfficeMax Australia, Corporate Express, Warehouse Stationery NZ, ACCO Australia, Pelikan Artline, Australian Office, Avery Dennison, GS1 New Zealand and GS1 Australia.
The Steering Committee appointed Brett Proposch from Officeworks to Chair the group and Martin Rodger from Australian Office as Deputy Chair.
If you would like to become a member of OSGAG, please contact Catherine Koetz to register your interest.

A work group was set up in July 2009 to lead the trialling and implementation of data synchronisation via GS1net in both Australia and New Zealand. Its major task was to determine a master data model for the sector, test the model through a comprehensive pilot program and then publish the data model to the industry for adoption and implementation as an Industry agreed standard to formulate and communicate item master data information.
Participation in the work group was open to any organisation. The following companies participated: Officeworks, OfficeMax, Corporate Express, Woolworths, Australian Office, Australian Envelopes, Avery Dennison, ACCO Australia and Pelikan Artline.
Industry Pilot Project
In November 2009, information sessions were held in both Melbourne and Sydney to introduce the concept and the benefits this initiative would bring to the sector as well as to inform the industry that a pilot project was being planned with a call for additional participation.
The pilot project commenced in early February 2010 and concluded in June 2010 Click here to download the Pilot Project Findings Document.
The project team consisted of the following companies:
Officeworks, Officemax, Corporate Express, Acco Australia, Australian Office, Dalton Office and Pelikan Artline.
An industry Call to Action was launched in July 2010 via seminars held in Melbourne and Sydney to deliver the pilot project findings, a final version of the data model and an adoption roadmap for implementation.
Please forward any queries to Catherine.Koetz at GS1 Australia.
