Individual Barcode Numbers (GTINs)

In 2007 GS1 Australia conducted extensive research into our SME (small to medium enterprise) memberships as part of our commitment to meeting the needs and improving our service levels to members.

Based on our findings the GS1 Australia Board of Directors approved a significant extension to the benefits of purchasing Individual Barcode Numbers (GTINs) effective from 1 February 2008.

We are pleased to advise that organisation’s with renewable Individual Barcode Numbers (GTINs) have automatically been converted to the new offering.

Individual Barcode Numbers (GTINs) are ideal for small businesses with between one and five products that require barcodes, or GTINs (Global Trade Item Numbers), to enable electronic scanning at retail point of sale. Typically these companies do not require other services offered by higher GS1 membership levels (e.g. barcode numbers for pallet/logistics level identification or data synchronisation).

What this means

The new Individual Barcode Numbers (GTINs) will allow organisations to request up to five individual GTINs (the ‘item level’ barcode number) before requiring a higher level of GS1 Australia membership.

Please note that there is no guarantee that the individual barcode numbers allocated will be sequential.

Fees, Support and Services

The annual subscription fee for the original number remains $100 + GST, with each additional number subject to an annual subscription fee of $50 + GST (with no pro rata).

To cover administration costs, an application fee of $50 + GST will be charged each time an Application for Individual Barcode Numbers (GTINs) form is submitted, regardless of how many indivuidual numbers are requested on the form.

One free barcode verification test will be provided per annum, with additional verification tests charged at the member rate of $25 + GST each.

Members will also continue to be entitled to one unique Global Location Number (GLN), used to identify physical locations and legal entities. GLNs are increasingly used by industry for eCommerce, online data synchronisation and logistics management.

In addition, all members receive a complementary online subscription to the GS1 Australia quarterly magazine (LiNK), complementary help desk assistance, and their first training session free of charge.

All other GS1 services (including training and professional consultancy services) will be charged to individual number members at non-member prices.
