Scannable and non-scannable barcodes
If your product or item is designed to merge with the supply chains of major suppliers or distributors, it is imperative that your barcode scans first time, every time.
Major retailers are increasingly intolerant of products that cause scanning errors. Barcodes that don't scan properly render all the time and money invested in scanning and supply chain systems utterly wasted. They can also prove very expensive in terms of packaging re design and rejected product.
There are a number of different things that will effect whether a barcode will scan properly or not. Some of these things include the choice of colour, the size of the barcode itself, and the print quality. For more information visit the GS1 Australia Barcodes section on the main site.
To ensure your barcode scans the first time every time, have it tested with the GS1 Australia’s Barcode Verification service before sending to your distributor.
